A predictably excellent review. The TT-R is an excellent bike - simple, light and powerful enough without being intimidating. It has, I think, now gone the way of so many good things - chucked into the "deleted" bin, along with the TT600 and Africa Twin. Killed off by fashion and flavour of the month frills.

Well, believe it or not... I used to swear by the 250cc. :)

The last 250cc I owned was a brand new 2003 Kawasaki KL250G7 Super Sherpa. I put 4000 miles on her in the one year that I owned her. I mod'd the shit out of it too. Installing a 4 gal. plastic tank from a XR650L to name one... a big one at that! I could get close to 300 miles before a fill. :Julian:

The reason I sold it? It just couldn't rip along on the street as fast as I wanted it. I'd do 75 mph and creep along the trails great, but it just didn't have the snap I've grown to love about the TA.

In the end... if a 4 stroke 250cc DS ever produces 50hp... I'll be first in line for it! :FFonRF:

Oh yeah, XT... you got it right. They stopped selling the Super Sherpa here in the US, but they still keep that relic KLR250  (drum brakes, kick start, and all)

An excellent article - thanks for posting that Pete! You don't by any chance have scans of the SideTrack TTR250 tuning articles that followed e.g. Issue 42 (page 66 onward) "Refining the TTR"?

The TTR is a great bike and very much under rated. Brand new 2004 models still avaialble for £3K with two-year Yamaha UK warantee....

Thanks Brian. I haven't got the other one I'm afraid, but I'll keep an eye open. :original:

None that I know of
But there is a 700 2 stroke that weighs only 108kg and puts out more than 50hp
It's made in the US too

Yes... now let's wait for the Japanese version... 100 lbs. heavier and 50% less power, but it looks just like it!

If you put a basket on the handlebars, it'll do nicely.:bgg:

But if you need to carry stuff by canal then you'll have to borrow Alan's barge! :ljl:
