View Full Version : Caponord at 2100miles...

Just gone over 2100miles on the capo since March 10.
Average consumption 7.8l/100km or about 34.5mpg. Sounds a lot, but the same as my R100GS, and 95% London traffic. I also dont hang about, as I always want to be 1st off the light, and 1st to arrive at the next one...
Oil consumption nil. I think it was slightly overfilled at the 600miles service, and the level is the same. The next service is at 5000 (Thinking about it, it might be 5000kms...) .
Fit and finish is very good, even after taking it apart and putting it back together several times. No sign of anything rusting or oxydizing. The front forks are the biggest I have seen, the frame is beautiful.
The accessories I had fitted are also very good quality, like the carbon fiber lower fairing, aluminium bash plate, crash bars or the heated grips/warning lights.
I did add a pro-oiler and a pair of extra lights.
There are no vibrations worth mentioning, and it is comfortable but it also depends on what you wear ! I might get the seat redone so that I dont slide forward as I like to sit as far back as I can. Talking about seat, I did a small tear in it with my boot zipper, but it was replaced under warranty without a fuss.
It has started every time when required, whether cold, hot, after standing for 10 days.
The engine is starting to free up, but Im told there is more to come. Accelerating from a standstill, the front wheel now lifts up even with me leaning forward (Im not a wheelie fan). It is very usable from 2500rpm upwards, certainly not as torquey as a BMW1200 or even 1150, but then again, nothing is ! My bro who has a 1150R commented on that, but otherwise, he thought it was "different!" in a faster sort of way. The rpm range I mostly use is 2500-6500, which is a lot lower than I expected.
The gearbox is also much softer now. It was difficult to find neutral from 1st, unless I was still rolling, but very easy from 2nd. Now, its not a problem anymore from 1st at a standstill. I have not yet missed a gear.
That said, I now wish it had more power because the bike can certainly take it. The same engine on the tuono is 125HP, that would be nice !
Roadholding is amazing for me, nothing puts it off its stride. Even 100mph on the M25, on bumpy bends, it does track straight and true, no hint of wallowing or snaking. I lean a lot more than Im used to, and I know it can be pushed a lot further than I ever will.
Brakes are very good, probably not as good as a 1200GS, but nothing is. The ABS works, especially for the rear, as I only felt it at the front when I tested it...
I wish it had a few more gizmos such as a gear indicator and trip computer, a slightly bigger indicator switch, and a proper handle to put the bike on the centrestand !
The wind protection is adequate but could be improved. Turbulences start at 85/90, and I need to put my head in my shoulders a bit. I realised recently that a different helmet makes a big difference as well. There are a few improvements I will try over time.
I also wish there was more after market accessories available !
Parts are now easily obtainable.
Basically, this bike does everything I expected it to do, only better. For the price, there is no better value out there IMHO.

no, I think the Capo is a very good looking bike, only matched by the GS1150 in their market, but still prettier. These are the only road oriented big trails I think are a design success
Well, looks is subjective, however...
the capo looks to me like an abortion of mismatched parts

Which big trailie style bike is not an abortion then ?

I like it, I was very tempted by one of these before, and would perhaps look at one in the future.
Still prefer the 1150GS, but I think one of these may be more suitable for me than my 950.
Looks a bit messy, but, like everyone says, the whole market is a bit monstrous. Except the 1150GS. It's odd, but I like it.
Shame about the view in your mirror- are you nekkid??? :o:

I like the Capo myself, it's a good looking bike and comfortable, not as trail capable as a Pegaso, but then again neither is a BMW GS, judging from what I've seen in real life. I was going to swap the Peg off for one, but couldn't make the deal happen. But hey, that's just me right?

Hi,
Pick up my Capo tomorrow :ys: , it better be good as its got to replace my Africa Twin (which will be hard) and for the short term I'll be running both (insurance already paid for so .....) , however as I suspect the newer, more powerfull bike may have the edge (no off roading... got an orange thing for that)
Will keep yer posted.

Yes and no:smile: ..... the @ is a bloody good bike and it will go off road but not in my hands (EXC 300 for that)
Unfortunately for what I need the bike to do (commute/school run !) and if its was just the mind making the decisions I'd be boring fart and drive a dueaville, but even my wife can see that the deaville not for me (yet)

However have owned @ the for seven years and need a change. In the short term the @ will still be with me.

As for the Capo ...... its a personnel thing .....I let you know after while if the heart/brain decision tree has gone to pot. I’ve being testing all the big trailies out there and there a was always something that that I didn’t like ie BMW-Price, etc. Its was nearly going to be a Tiger until on the test ride I got it home.Even on the lowest seat setting I had problems moving it around, then when my pillion jumped on (as boys do) its was struggle and he nearly burnt him self on the exhaust.
OK its Italian (goes with my Guzzi) ,depreciates like a stone (haven’t brought a new one !) ugly pig but the best of the bunch, lower seat height (allows pillion to get on easier and better for my naff hip) comfy too.
For the price/extras I couldn't fault it … except for the colour.

I was only joking old boy. I've got A 300 KTM in the garage too. Well until my mate finished building his shed at his new address anyway. Wish he'd hurry up. A clean bike in my garage is upsetting my other bikes.

They come from Aprilia, you can see them in the catalogue.
Actually, they are the same as the rallye raid, as it seems the new capo is a rallye raid in disguise except for the colour and adjustable front forks.
So, Im not sure if they fit the 04 and before model.
What are you getting then ?

I still do rallies occasionally and started in about 84. I remember very little about the early days.
Yes I am indeed only 18 and a half. Started rallies when I was minus 2 and a half.
