As a man of my word here is the 3000 mile report :) :

Average Fuel Consumption - 53.01mpg
Oil Consumption - Nil
Chain Adjustments - None
Maximum Speed - 140 on the clock and plenty left.
Issues - None
Really boring actually.
Engine is still a little tight. Basically it does everything (except speed testing at Bonneville) below 5000 rpm. It pulls cleany and strongly from 1500rpm in top and on A or B roads 5th gear is all you ever need. 1.2.3 abd 4 are just for getting underway, town riding and single track mountain roads.
The naked Bandit is a different animal to the half-faired S I had before. The suspension is firmer and it feels more agile.
One thing I can say for sure. It is a better bike than the CB1300, in every way bar the handling, where the CB might just have the edge.
