About three years ago I was looking intently into buying a KTM. I was interested, at the time, in the 640 Adventure, (which incidentally, looks a lot different now).

At the time I was living in Moscow and the info for the Russian KTM "dealer" at the time was two home telephone numbers. That was a little too shady for me but I also started to read, (on various M/C forums) about some reliability issues.

What's the word on KTM reliability now? Are they a solid, dependable bike?

For a non mechanically minded owner the jury is still out I think, as they seem to need a lot of fettling to keep them running in tip top condition.
Creeper is the man to answer this with authority, as he know them inside out.

The first ones were recalled for clutch mods and rusty spoke nipples were replaced under warranty. Apart from that the main beef seems to be the rims denting during heavy off road stuff, and the occaisional head gasket problem.

And there was me thinking I won’t put the obligatory “Oooer missus after that - they are far too cultured.
